Kagoshima Konan High School 15 students

Basically, you don’t need to speak Japanese. Their English level is very high, and they also have a strong motivation to improve own English and research abilities more.
So, please talk to them as much as possible.

Fri 10, March 2017

  1. 9:00 AM –12:00 PM (meeting at  @ Christ Church college)
    College tour and shopping
We will make 4 groups (10 students for each group). Please walk around Oxford with them, and show colleges, explaining Oxford university and your study life.
  2. 13:30 AM –17:00 PM (meeting at  @ St. Antony’s college )

    1. Self introduction (15 min. group work)

    2. Ice breaking game (group work)

What did you do today? (10 mins)

Each student must say a thing they’ve done today. Anything – I ate breakfast, I put on a sweater, etc. The next student must do the same thing but they can’t say anything the previous student has said. Go clockwise.

    Guess Who (20mins )

Distribute small strips of paper (1 or 2) to the students. Make sure the strips are all the same, that way no one will be able to guess by the size or shape of the paper. On the strips the students write one “fact” about themselves that the others do not know. Tell the students it shouldn’t be something extremely obvious to guess. Gather the strips and then have each student pick out a strip and read the fact out loud. The student who reads then has three guesses as to who it is. If the student does not guess after three times, the person who wrote the fact should say “It is me”. It sometimes turns out funny. Go clockwise.

Two Truths One Lie (20mins )  Ask each Oxford student to lead this activity in each group.

Oxford students will think of two true things about themselves and one lie.

(For example: I got a scuba diving license when I was 15, I have been to Tanzania, and My parents own a pizza restaurant)

Gokase students must ask them questions to find out which is the lie. (For example: Where did you get certified? Where did you last go diving? What is the capital of Tanzania? Etc.)

Finally the students then make their guesses and the Oxford student tell them if they are right or not.  They may want to check their answers by having them raise their hands 1,2, or 3.

(If they have some time left until every group finishes, they can have some more conversation about the topics they discussed.) If time allows, facilitator(me) will demonstrate in front of the class at the beginning.

    Break (15 Minutes)

    3. More Activities (group work)

    ①Draw me the Picture(30mins)

Make sure the Oxford students cannot look at the screen for this activity.

Manabi students will describe the picture on the screen, and Oxford students draw the picture.

Show them three pictures if time allows.
